Children's Formation

SUMMER 2015

Sundays this summer will be a bit like vacation Bible school for our children, with a fun mix of lessons, arts and crafts, songs, activities and more. We'll meet indoors and outdoors - dress casually. Sunday School-aged children through fifth grade are welcome. Each lesson is self-contained, so absences are fine.

During the Academic Year...

Honor your child’s baptismal covenant to be brought up in the Christian faith and life (BCP 302) by participating in weekly children’s formation. Church of the Holy Communion strives to offer the best in Christian Formation and to give all children an opportunity to grow in the love and knowledge of God through Christian liturgy and scripture.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a developmentally appropriate program for spiritual formation and religious education based on the work of Dr. Sofia Cavalletti and Dr. Maria Montessori. Children meet in a specially prepared environment with materials to facilitate prayer, learning about the life and parables of Jesus, the geography of holy lands, the history of the Bible, the origins of liturgy and the history of worship. All Atria are located on the lower level and are accessed through Blaisdell Dining Hall, where parents drop off and pick up their children. Our Catechists are Paula Payne, Martha Klee, Judy Phillips and Brent and Lee Glasgow. To register your children online click here.

Crossings
4th & 5th Grades
Sundays at 9:15 a.m. in Room 101

This formation class is designed to help our 4th- and 5th-grade children prepare to "cross over" from the younger children's offerings into the youth group classes and activities. The class is parent-led and follows the Lectionary as well as reinforcing life lessons learned earlier Catechesis. It is helpful for each child to have an NRSV Bible to read and mark up as desired. Spark Lectionary Bibles that are designed for this purpose can be ordered. Questions to be directed to Katie Collier.

Sunday Morning Childcare

Infant & Toddler Centers

As Church of the Holy Communion continues to grow, we are glad to provide a fine space for childcare and children’s programs. Being nurtured in a loving, trust-filled environment is one way young children develop trust in the predictability of events. That loving care serves as the foundation for future faith development. The Infant & Toddler Centers are available on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until noon and are located on the second floor, down the hall from the church offices and to the left. The Infant Center is recommended for newborns-2 and is in Room 212. The Toddler Center is for 2-4 yrs. and is in Room 213.
Infant Center: Room 211
Toddler Center: Room 213

Children's Chapel

Offered at the 10:30 am service only. When you see our children's cross at the chancel steps, children (ages 3-8) come forward to process to the Children’s Chapel in room 309 for a time of God-inspired singing, activity and storytelling. The children return to the service after the passing of the Peace. All are welcome to join with our youngest members to share the word of God in song, story and movement.
